e.e. cummings

e.e. cummings broke a lot of the rules that Mrs. Hochbein loves - grammar, punctuation, etc.  Why do you think he did this?  How does it affect his poetry?

  1. I think he did it to be one of a kind, so when people think of poetry they think of that guy, e.e. cummings who was crazy with puncuation!

  2. I think he used grammar and punctuation to make his poems more interesting because poets usually don't use grammar or punctuation.

  3. I think he did it to make kids laugh. It affects his poetry by making the puncuation wrong.

  4. I think he did it because he felt like it and he wanted to bring smiles to peoples faces. It made his poetry 100,000,000,000,000 times better.

  5. I think he broke these rules to tell the reader that when you're writing for fun you can do anything you imagine and to tell the reader where the important things are. It effects his poetry because it is nothing the readers have ever seen. It makes his poems better, in my opinion.

  6. i think he broke these rules so he could make it look kinda like a concrete or shape poem. I also think it made the words he liked kinda stand out. I think that it made the poem sound better and look cooler. One thing I found insterestng is that he was a scholar and still wrote like that.

  8. I think he broke a lot of those rules because he didn't want to add punctuation to his poems. It affected his poetry because you can't tell when to pause because there is no comma and stuff like that.

  9. e.e. cummings is one of my favorite writters that we have learned about. I think that when he brakes the rule of grammar he wants his amotions and his create juices comeing out of his brain. Or he wants to be a bad boy because his dad always taught him todo good and never got to be free. Here is a poem that I made up about e.e cummings

When he brakes the grammar rules
    he brakes my heart
    When he writes a poem
    I am his biggest fan

That was bab but I really want a jolly rancher

    Jolly Ranchers
    lots of flavor
    I am craving one now
can you do me a favor

  10. I think he did it to change his poetry and affects how you read it. It changes it because it makes you think about it differently and maybe even read it different ways.

  11. I think he does this because his childhood was crazy and fun so he wants to make his poetry fun. It affects his poetry because it's bunched up and crazy.

  12. I think e.e. Cummings broke the rules so it was a different type of poem and it express his feelings like all poetry should. It effects his poetry because it is a bit harder to read. I think the it is cool how he writes. He is a very good poet.

  13. i think he did it to be fun for the reader. to give their eyes a little maze and they have to figure out how to finish it. I think it makes his poetry fun!

  14. I think e.e. cummings did this because he wants to make his poems that are better to look at then just read aloud. Other poems are better to read aloud.

  15. I think he did this because he wanted it to sound like a toddler did it to have more kids like it and understand it.I think its effect was great because it looks like it's written the way it sounds. like when it has long spaces, he probably wants it to be read slowly so you get the feel of what he's trying to say. It pops emotions out more so you see them. The effect was great.

  16. I think he did this to make sure you read it the write way. He also could be making a picture with the words

  17. e.e. cummings
    did this
    because
    at Harvard he
had to use correct grammar for his tests and his
    homework and maybe
    he wantd
    to try
    somthing

    new and
    take a break
    from grammar.
    This makes his

    poetry interesting
    and
    one of a kind.

  18. I think he did this to be funky and creative with his work. It affects his work by making him stand out and do something a great poet would never do.
He may at first did it by accident and maybe he started to like the way it was. I am just guessing a little bit out of the question.

  19. I thinkthat e.e. cummings did incorrect GrAmMar because itmade the poem sound MORE interesting and made your brain think differtly:
It affects hispoems because itmakes his PoEm because it makes the reader more interested in it and intoit

Mrs.H i did incorrect grammar on purpose...

  20. I think he did this because he wants to show that he is creative to. He might have thought people thought he was a super smart guy. The affect this on the poem is that it makes you stop were it wants you to stop. I also think it shows great expression.

  21. I think he did this because he wants to be different and not worry about having every single spelling and grammar perfect. It makes his poems be funnier and makes you want to read it because the words are all over the place.

  22. I think e.e. cummings did this because he wanted to be a unique poet and that he wanted to be a different kind of poet then any of the others. It effects his poems because it is more different then anyone else's .

  23. I love e.e. cumming did incorrect grammar because then you know when to pause or he just has an imagination. I think it effects on the poems by making it seem like a person is talking right to you right now and I also think that it makes the poem more atractive.

  24. I thinks e.e. cumming did incorrect grammer to express himself as A new way of writing. I thinkhe also did this to makepeople laugh.
    he also did to make
    People notice His work
and to see what it is. So I think he made it like that so people can laugh and notice his poems that have a story in them that makes the story sound like a riddle.

  25. i think e.e cumming did incorrect grammar so he would stand out from the other poets, also i think he did incorrect grammar because it looks more exciting and gets people really excited and also if he doesn't write his name on the poem because he is probably lazy you will know right away that he is the person that does not do grammar and it effects his poetry cause he puts alot of spaces then writes another letter like this byeeeeeee:):):):):):):):):):)::):):):):):):):(:):)

  27. I think that e.e. cumings is a talented and creative writer. He discribes things well by show and not tell. (I did not mean to rhyme that) I think that he didn't use punctuation because it set the mood. I think he also tried to express himself through his writing. It makes his poems different because it showed his pesonality. And like I said earlier, he is a fun, creative, and spunky (random) writer. His poems are all different and the same in many ways.

  28. I think that he does not use the right
grammar because he had a gigantic imagination and He wanted to HAVE FUN!

  29. I think he did this because he wanted to make it sound better with all his (BIG) grammar mistakes. It affects his poetry because he uses the wrong puncutation and it can sometimes mess up how the reader is reading the poem. I am so glad that we are learning about a happy poet.

  30. I think E. E. hates grammar. I think as he was born, he took it and threw it into an endless void of hatred. This makes his poems FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN!
For fun here's some incorrect grammar: hizez? hez an winzez lolzes. hEis more awzome thans flying sawz? ;D

  31. I think he uses wrong grammar and punctuation because he wants to be different. He also wants to attract people's attention. His mistakes affect this poem because it draws people's attention and makes the people who see his poem want to tell people they know. Then his poems will be known everywhere.

  32. I think he did it to paint a picture and it makes kids more interested. It effects his poems because it makes the poem seem more realistic and that it does not matter as much if you spell words correctly or use the right punctuation. It does matter that you are being a kind, holy, and happy person to everyone. That is why I think he didn't use correct punctuation. He is a great poet and I like him a lot.

  33. I think he did this to say that he wasn't always smart even though he went to harvard that he didn't always follow the rules. I think it effects the poem by making it stand out like right when you see it you know that he wrote it.

  34. I think he does that because it tell you how Long to break or not break and it makes it all funky and crazy.if he did not do that I might not be so funny for people to read his poems.

  35. I think he did incorrect grammar to make the poem more interesting and creative. It effected his poems by making them unique. That means he had his own way of writing, which also makes him different. This might make people what to read it.

  36. i think he did this to make his poems interesting and it effected his poetry because he made the words flow better.

  37. I think he did it because he was so sick of people expecting perfect work from him, with no mistakes. so he decided to color outside the lines. so he just did the opposite of what was expected. Lauren

  38. I think he writes his poems like that because he is always using the correct grammer at Harvard. I think that it effects the poem because it is a new creative way that poets write. I think it is a good idea.

  39. I think he did this because he wanted to show the real meaning of a poem and that makes you look through all the mistakes. I think this effects his poems by making them real, like making them talk and when you talk you don't always talk right.

  40. I think that e.e. cummings did that because so it would be original.
It affects his poems so more people will read it and so he would got popluar.

  41. I think that when e.e. cummings uses his C rA Zy; punctuation it makes it look like his work.
So, you are looking through one of Ms.Hochbein's poetry books and then you see one crazy poem all over the page. Wow! I want to read this poem It looks like a good one. You think oh we learned about e.e.cummings in poetry class, I love how the punctuation just flies accrose the page. You start to read the poem, and you love how he enfasizes words and uses the space bar. You love the way the punctuation changes the poem complety!
